There’s really nothing more romantic than having an afternoon to kill (which happens less and less often as we get older) and spending it at a café terrace, in the park, or curled up on the couch—lost in a book.
In recent years, we’ve seen a global resurgence in book reading (even if it’sromantasy like“Heated Rivalry,” even if it’s read on a Kindle or as an audiobook). Girls are reading Nobel Prize-winning literature just like Dua Lipa, andmillennials are rereading“Wuthering Heights” in the bath.
To stock up on a little reading material before the long summer afternoons, we’re heading to a big used book sale organized to benefit Montreal’s libraries.
2026 Big Book Sale
For nine days, more than 150,000 used books from Montreal library collections will go on sale in a “Big Sale,” along with magazines, DVDs, and CDs. All books (and other items) will be priced between 50 cents and $4.
Every day, new books will be added to the sale bins, and proceeds from the Grand Solde will go to participating Montreal libraries and their community programs—including outreach and cultural mediation activities.
