With the snow falling, the wind blowing and the water freezing to the pavement, winter – not the cute winter we conjure up during the festive season – has arrived. The bottoms of our jeans are stained with sloche, we drag gravel into every café we enter and, if we have a car, we have a vague anxiety attack every time we park.
Every year , Montreal is sporadically immobilized by snowfalls and long icy nights, and the streets become impassable. We all know a cowboy who can park one-handed in a snowbank with his eyes closed and an angel on his shoulder – and we’re very impressed – but the rest of us need a little help.
Depending on where we live, we suffer even on foot. Oh, how we lament that our street is the ONLY one that hasn’t been plowed -of the whole city, our street alone.For the anxious, the cowboys and for all those who live in Montreal, the City is debuting (or updating) a special snow mobile application.
The 311 mobile application already existed – it’s the City of Montreal’s – but this update is of great interest to us for the winter season.
311 mobile application
The 311 application is free and simple, and will provide Montrealers with all the information they need all winter long.
First, it lists snow removal operations (which you can follow live on a map). If you register your car, you can also receive alerts when it needs to be moved. And, miraculously, the application also indicates free parking spaces where you can park your car while the streets are being cleared of snow.
You’ll also be able to submit service requests directly from your phone;

- slippery pavement or sidewalk
- forgotten signage
- collection problems (garbage, recycling)
- manhole problem
- pothole
- signage error during snow removal operation
- graffiti
- defective streetlight
- damaged street furniture
- lack of cleanliness
- problem with mechanical sweeper
