Throughout the month of June 2026, the Cinémathèque Québécoise in Montreal is presenting a retrospective of director Stanley Kubrick’s work— Stanley Kubrick, the Cinema Odyssey. His greatest films will be screened. The full program is available here.
As part of this retrospective, there will be a lecture and a special screening on Thursday, June 4, of his most retrofuturistic and brilliant work— 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).

In addition to 2001: A Space Odyssey, two documentaries that inspired Kubrick for2001andFull Metal Jacketwill be screened:Universeby Canadian filmmakersRoman KroitorandColin Low; andBasic Trainingby the great documentary filmmakerFrederick Wiseman.
Oh! Kubrick!
Stanley Kubrick is the legendary and revered director of the great films A Clockwork Orange (1971), The Shining (1980), Barry Lyndon (1975), Eyes Wide Shut (1999), Full Metal Jacket (1987)…
His filmography is impeccable, violent, dark, and incredibly diverse for such a prolific director. He is as loved (by film school students who love shooting 60 takes for a single short film scene) as he is feared (by actors who have worked with him) because of his perfectionism bordering on madness and his bad temper, excused in part by his genius.
On Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 5:45 PM, to accompany 2001: A Space Odyssey ( 1968), Victor Norek, creator of the film criticism channel Le CinématoGrapheur, will host a free lecture. The title is KUBRICK, TOTAL FILMMAKER. It will be an exploration of the director’s work and his monumental ambition. Following the lecture, there will be a screening of the film at 8:00 PM.
