When the streets of Montreal warm up, however gently, Montrealers and visitors to the city absolutely must cool off on a terrace with a beer (with or without alcohol) – it’s almost compulsory.
In Montreal, we’re lucky enough to have lots of microbreweries that brew their beers right in the city, on site, and their terraces and pubs are true third-party community places that make us all happier and allow us to consume ultra-locally (which is good for the economy AND the environment).
There’s a beer for every taste: classic, European or American brews, IPAs, sour fruit beers, alcohol-free beers and even ciders and kombuchas.
Here are 10 microbreweries we love in Montreal…

4 origines is Montreal’s most experimental microbrewery. They use responsible brewing processes, more and more local ingredients and mix fruit, coffee and teas for beers with surprisingly tangy tastes.
4 origins: 1304 rue Saint-Patrick
9. public space
L’espace public brews its beers on the premises, and is also a community and cultural space that promotes neighborhood life, mutual aid and the simple, warm atmosphere of a local bar, with pickled eggs and inexpensive beers.
We’re big fans of their cans of beer, designed to be drunk on terraces, street corners, offices, balconies…
Public space: 2287 Avenue Letourneux
10.Dispensaire Microbrasserie
This is Montreal’s most festive microbrewery-the bar and summer terrace are really fun , and the selection of beers on tap is really diverse.
Dispensaire Microbrasserie: 102 Prince Arthur Street East
Don’t forget to drink water too, and wear a cap and sun cream on the terrace…
