Take the metro from downtown, then hop on a bus, and in about an hour you’ll arrive at the Bois de l’Équerre—and suddenly, it really feels like spring. Under the trees, with your feet in the dirt and the scent of the year’s first flowers in your hair.
For a stroll through the woods without really leaving the city, for a date with a touch of nature, or for a walk with friends who spend too much time online. Plus, you can bring your dog.
Le Bois de l’Équerre
The Bois de l’Équerre is accessible from the Sainte-Rose neighborhood in Laval—it’s an urban forest, but very well-preserved and also a nature reserve.
There are 12.95 km of hiking trails, 160 species of birds, 20 species of mammals, and 10 species of reptiles and amphibians. It’s for birdwatchers, those who love identifying flowers and leaves, and for fitness enthusiasts.

You can have a picnic there, because there are tables and a shelter to relax in.
We’ll head there with a basket full of sandwiches, a guide to identifying Quebec’s trees and plants, and our dog—because it’s pretty rare to be able to walk in the woods with your pup so close to the city.
