Beneath the grand glass roof of Windsor Station, Montreal now gathers in a setting steeped in history. A former train station, heritage building, and venue for major events, it has evolved alongside the city while always remaining an integral part of it.
Its history began around 1887, at a time when the railroad was helping to shape Canada’s development. For years, travelers and Canadian Pacific employees crossed paths in its hallways: the station served as both a major rail terminal and the company’s headquarters. Then the construction of the Bell Centre cut it off from its tracks. Rail operations were transferred to Lucien-L’Allier Station, but the building itself remains firmly rooted in the city.
From Terminal to Meeting Place
Far from turning its back on its past, Windsor Station is instead writing the next chapter of its story. While its spaces now serve new purposes, they have lost none of their unique character. Recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada, it benefits from heritage protection that preserves its iconic interior spaces, including the Hall of Lost Steps.

A grand stage under a glass roof
Located at the corner of Dorchester Square and Canada Place, the complex spans 326,000 square feet. Today, this vast complex comprises offices spread across 11 floors, retail spaces, and event venues.
At its heart, the Salle des pas perdus catches the eye with its approximately 29,000 square feet bathed in light thanks to its spectacular glass roof. Capable of accommodating more than 2,500 people depending on the layout, it offers a simply magnificent setting for major events. One of the most notable events to date remains the 88th Annual St. Mary’s Ball, which brought together hundreds of guests under the glass roof and raised over $2 million.
In 2027, Windsor Station takes on a romantic vibe
The place has long been a discreet witness to many stolen kisses: the Salle des pas perdus ranks among the most romantic spots to kiss in Montreal. With its glass ceiling and movie-set-like ambiance, it’s easy to see why it has such a reputation.
In early 2027, the Candlelight concerts will offer another opportunity to experience a romantic moment at Windsor Station, this time to the sound of music and the glow of candles. The setting promises to be magical, as does the soundtrack… as for the chemistry, the rest is up to you!
