Between Montreal and Quebec City, along the beautiful route the VIARAIL train takes through the fields, you can stop in the small town of Saint-Hyacinthe. The town, on the banks of the Yamaska River, has a small downtown area, lovely gardens, and charming cafés.
All you have to do is put on a pretty scarf (preferably striped) and take the train from downtown Montreal. After 40 minutes, you’ll arrive in Saint-Hyacinthe.

PARC LES SALINES
To stroll through the fallen leaves, go for a bike ride, or have a picnic under the warm rays of the autumn sun. There are loops ranging from half an hour to an hour, perfect for lovely, easy walks.
Head there with some sandwiches, a herbarium or a notebook, and a sweater with pockets to put acorns and pebbles in. It’s important to reconnect with nature in the fall.
Where? Parc Les Salines, 5330 Rue Martineau, Saint-Hyacinthe

Before or after your stroll, stop by Café Albert for a sandwich, a break on a velvet bench, and a coffee.
The café also doubles as a gourmet grocery store, and for those who like to splurge, you can elevate your picnic with marinated olives, local maple caramel, or imported chestnut cream.
