We love sunbathing during our springtime strolls around Montreal, but sometimes we want to forget the city for an afternoon and go sunbathing at the beach…
And it’s possible, less than 2 hours’ drive from downtown, at Oka beach, from May 19!
The Beach
Not to be confused with the town of Oka, the beach we’re talking about is located in the Parc national d’Oka, and is therefore under the supervision and protection of the Sepaq. It’s a beach to be respected, and one that’s incredibly well preserved in its biodiversity and natural beauty.
Picnics can be enjoyed on the water’s edge or under the trees, and several wooden tables and charcoal barbecues are available to beach visitors.
Please note, however, that dogs are not allowed in the beach area.
Beauty and biodiversity
Parc National d’Oka isn’t just about the beach, it’s also about the trails that lead to many viewpoints, between the Rivière aux Serpents, Grande Baie (a haven for migratory birds, which are very present in spring) and the Adirondack mountain range.
Water sports
During the summer season, Oka’s beach resounds with laughter and splashes of clear water – but it’s also a spot for water sports.
For the kids, there’s a water course – “Aquazilla” – and for everyone there’s kayaking, paddleboarding and pedal-boating. Everything can be rented on arrival at the lake, by the hour, half-day or day.
And for purists, you can simply swim in the clear, cool water.
Practical info
Of course, don’t forget your sun cream, gougounes, sarong, hat and water bottle!
The spring-summer 2025 season (when the beach is open and bathing is supervised between 9.30 a.m. and 6 p.m.) runs from May 19 to September 1.
Admission to Oka National Park is $9.85 for adults and free for children (17 and under). Parking is not free during the summer season, so reserve your spot here!
Enjoy the sun!
