The start of the school year isn’t always a time of pure novelty. In fact, it might be the most nostalgic time of the (school) year—a return to a routine that, for most people who no longer go to school, feels more reassuring than a summer at the lake.
Nostalgia comes through the eyes and the muscle memory of a night at the movies during the fall midnight film series at the Cinéma du Parc. From September through Halloween, it’s the “audience’s choice,” and it’s ultra-polished, colorful, gory, and a little surreal.
Each film is shown three times—on Friday evenings at 9:30 p.m., Saturday evenings at 9:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

BLUE, GREEN, BLOOD RED, AND VIOLENT PINK—THE MOST POP OF GENRE FILMS
The audience’s choice—always curated by the programming team at the independent cinema chain CINÉMA CINÉMA—is the coolest nerdy movie selection we know.
First, there are the midnight movie classics—and the ones we recommend seeing with a date you don’t know very well and want to see again afterward. These include *The Shining* (1980), *Carrie* (1976), and *Alien* (1979). We especially recommend FALLEN ANGELS (1995) by Wong Kar-Wai, one of the most beautiful films to see in this midnight screening series.

–
For those with strong stomachs and sophisticated tastes, we obviously recommend David Cronenberg’s utterly gross *Videodrome* (1983), featuring Debbie Harry’s mouth on the TV and the harrowing body horror that makes us want to lie down in the grass and never look at a screen again. In the same vein, there’s of course also *Possession* (1981), which is a must-see on the big screen before the remake starring Margaret Qualley.

–
For those who love the most pop, the most aesthetic, and the most sinister in cinema, we recommend *Suspiria* (1977), the wild *House* (1977), or the very special *Perfect Blue* (1997), a major inspiration for Darren Aronofsky’s *Black Swan*.
