When you think of Montreal and Quebec, many things come to mind: hockey (Go Habs Go!), artists (Riopelle, of course), the city’s modernist architecture andthe brownstonesof the Plateau, poutine, lakefront docks, and lumberjacks in plaid shirts.
But—and it seems obvious when you think about it—Quebec is also a land of farmers and cowboys, andWestern andcountryculture plays a huge role in theQuebec zeitgeist.
This weekend marks the iconic LASSO Festival—a country music festival celebrating its fifth edition this year in Montreal.
BOOTS, HATS, RIDING BOOTS, COUNTRY—THE LASSO FESTIVAL
The LASSO festival is as much about fashion as it is about music. Head there in fringes, raw denim, and the requisite boots. We recommend stopping by one of our favorite vintage shops in Montreal this week to put together a country look.
Over the two days of this weekend, August 14–15, 2026, there will be country music from early afternoon until evening. The festival’s headliners are Thomas Rett and Mumford & Sons.
In addition to the music, there will be line dancing lessons, hats for sale on-site, and food and drinks. Of course, there will be beer and hot dogs—and cocktails and avocado bowls for those who want to go country, but not too far.
In the city, if you can’t make it to the festival, there will be free events—cocktails, line dancing, and music—on Friday, August 14.
