In the nostalgic patchwork of our fondest summer memories in Quebec—which vaguely resembles a toothpaste commercial and has a late-90s pop song like “Kids in America” as its soundtrack —there are classics. Barbecues, camping, kayaking, beach volleyball…
There’s also the taste of popsicles after a long swim, the music, the sunscreen, the mosquitoes. The nostalgia for summer camps and summer vacations has a special flavor, one we seek out a little in every vacation weekend we treat ourselves to between two weeks of work spent sitting in front of a computer.
In Trois-Rivières, a small island transforms into a sort of summer camp with all the activities we remember: the smell of a crackling fire, the pool, french fries, and long afternoons reading on the beach, under the pine trees.
Saint-Quentin Island
Saint-Quentin Island is tiny, connected to the city of Trois-Rivières by a bridge, but it has unspoiled nature that gives it a real countryside feel. Its park features forests, beaches, and a large swimming pool so that everyone can find their own summer “Madeleine de Proust” there.
The island is a bit like a giant summer camp, and you can buy a day pass or a season pass to get in. In Île Saint-Quentin Park, there is;

- a nature trail with plant and animal identification
- a bike path
- a food truck
- a playground for the kids
- picnic and barbecue areas
Honestly, all that’s missing is a friendship bracelet workshop with colorful string to complete the picture of a summer camp.
Île Saint-Quentin also has a day camp (the original nostalgic summer camp) for children.
