Montreal may be the next nerve center of the world’s independent cinema… That’s what we think, because if it’s not the city of big red carpets and stars in sedans, it’s definitely the darling city of cinephiles.
Since the beginning of the year, we’ve attended nearly 20 film festivals where we’ve discovered something artistically fresh and emotionally jouissif, something interesting and something that’s inspired us to live more romantically.
And from November 20 to 30, 2025, it’s the long-awaited Festival Image+Nation in Montreal…
Image+Nation Festival
In celebration of LGBT2SQUEER cinema and filmmakers, this festival will present 10 days of film screenings and parties around the voices and talent of the community.
This year marks the 38th edition of the festival, and it will also run online until December 7, 2025.
In addition to the film screenings (the full program comes out in early November), it’s also the 25th edition of Queerment Québec, a festival initiative to support queer filmmakers and creators in Montreal. There will be a special evening at PHI for exchanges, encounters and lots of creativity.
There will also be two evenings to explore the diversity of LGBTQ narratives in a relaxed setting and with the younger generation; a student evening and a KINO evening (in collaboration with KINO Montréal).
The opening film is Gail Maurice’s much-anticipated BLOOD LINES – a gentle film by the director of Rosie about intergenerational trauma in the Aboriginal community. It opens at Théâtre Outremont on November 20.
