Knitting is the coolest new Montreal hobby we know, and with good reason. Knitting is relaxing, just complicated enough to engage our brains without reminding us too much of ministry exams, and incredibly creative. Our merino scarves? Made by hand. Our Christmas presents? Knitted.
Montrealers knit in cafés, at home, and in knitting classes and clubs-because it’s still a complicated activity, and we love having the group’s opinion on when to pass the hand back.
On December 4, 2025, we’ll be able to knit at the movies with a special film & knit for the release of Quebec’s first all-female sports comedy, Les Furies… And we won’t be alone, because 35 cinemas across Quebec are taking part.
Les Furies
Les Furies is a feminist, Quebecois women’s film about an underground roller derby team of female hockey players who have lost their ice time due to the formation of a semi-pro men’s hockey team in the city.

The film was directed by Mélanie Charbonneau from a screenplay by Gabrielle Côté, and features a truly delightful cast : Gabrielle Côté, Anne-Élisabeth Bossé, Antoine Bertrand, France Castel, Juliette Gosselin, Debbie Lynch-White, Samantha Fins, Sandrine Brisson, Nathalie Doummar, Ximena Ferrer, Aurélia Arandi-Longpré, Lyraël Dauphin, Antoine Pilon and Maxime de Cotret.
The film opens in cinemas in Montreal and across Quebec on November 28, 2025, and we recommend seeing it even if you don’t know how to knit…
Ciné-tricot
Enlacés Montréal has been organizing Yarn and Film knitting evenings in cinemas since the beginning of the year, with great success.
These are evenings of film screenings with dimmed lights – enough to see the film and to see one’s yarns – which encourage participants to knit during the screening. These evenings are open to senior knitters and beginners alike.
Very often, knitting is enjoyable in itself, and in real life, the result isn’t so important. A scarf with uneven stripes, if it’s a labor of love, is exceptional by its very existence…
On Thursday, December 4, 35 cinemas across Quebec will be full of knitters, and we’d like to be a part of it!
