The most beautiful days of fall are happening right now in Montreal. The weather is clear and dry, the wind is gently gusty, and red and yellow fallen leaves are raining down on the streets from the trees. And, of course, the sun is shining brightly.
To enjoy the crunch of colorful leaves under our feet this fall, we’ll go for a walk in the woods—of course—on those long, golden afternoons during the fall weeks and on weekends.
It’s the perfect time to go for a walk in Parc Nature de l’Île-de-la-Visitation, one of the most beautiful parks on the North Shore. Just before the first snow falls—and, honestly, after it does, too.

ÎLE-DE-LA-VISITATION NATURE PARK
Île-de-la-Visitation and the nature park where it’s located are on the banks of the Rivière des Prairies, north of Montreal. In addition to the stunning natural scenery, there are two historic houses to visit, “ruins” that give the place a mysterious air, and a lovely walk under the trees.
First, there’s the Maison du Pressoir—a historical interpretation center where you can see two large, very well-preserved apple presses. These presses (which were used to make cider) are, among other things, remnants of the old village and the Moulins site, whose ruins can also be seen in the park.
Next door, another historic house called the Maison du Meunier boasts one of Montreal’s prettiest terraces, overlooking the Rivière des Prairies.
