It’s the start of the new season at the movies, and to mark the occasion, the Cinémathèque Québécoise is offering a master class in cinephilia: a film series featuring the works of the ultimate cinephile, Quentin Tarantino.
It runs from August 21 to September 11, 2026, and will feature the director’s classics, his first screenplay—*True Romance*—and Robert Rodriguez’s cult classic *From Dusk Till Dawn*, in which Tarantino plays a truly delightful role.
No KILL BILL… but we can always watch them at home, like homework to do over the weekend.
CINEPHILIA, VIDEO RENTAL SHOPS, AND A CINEMATIC EDUCATION
Tarantino, whom the Cinémathèque describes as a “cinéphage”—literally, someone who “devours” cinema—is the kind of artist you either know or recognize.
He’s the film student who’s seen every Dario Argento movie (and Taboada’s, of course); he’s the musician who collects drum solos by the most obscure mystical heroes of the ’70s; he’s an entire library of punk and B-movies who loves to talk about Schopenhauer at family dinners.
And we love Tarantino because he loves cinema so much that it’s impossible not to find his films utterly thrilling. Violence, sex, drugs, rock ’n’ roll—the director’s films are exhilarating, colorful, vibrant, and very, very cool.
Tarantino doesn’t try to come across as smart or deep. His films are so packed with references that they become almost satirical—and that’s his genius. A Tarantino film is a film that loves cinema.
It’s perfect for the start of the school year, for budding film buffs, for students, and for anyone looking to reawaken their appetite for cinema.
