All the coolest people we know are returning from—or planning—a trip to Japan. Andthey talk about it all the time, maybe even too much. But Japan hasn’t just become trendy overnight; it’s a destination and a culture that has been adored in the global West since, frankly, forever.
In Montreal, following a very cool Japan Week, the organization ASIEASIE is organizing, as it does every year, a four-day Japanese market: YATAI Montreal. It’s the largest Japanese street market in Quebec, and last year it drew 40,000 visitors over the course of four days. This year, it runs from June 4 to 7, 2026.
Sweets, crafts, “Shibalade”
At the YATAI Market, there will be Japanese crafts—kimonos, calligraphy, candles, and soy sauces made to perfection. There will also be 27 food and drink stalls serving fresh treats—ramen, Ube cheesecake, matcha, and ice cream.
In addition to the market, there’s a special program;
- Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM / Shibalade (walk with Shiba dogs) at the Marché des Éclusiers—walk to Bassin Peel, where the YATAI market is located / free admission for those who come with their Shiba or Akita dog
- Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 3:00 PM / Ghibli Cosplay Contest with prizes to be won / register here
- Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 3:00 PM / Outdoor Ghibli Piano Concert (immediately following the Cosplay Contest)
