Sometimes it feels like the shortest month of the year is the one that seems longest, but that’s no excuse to stay home! The second half of February is an opportunity to fill up on serotonin, while you wait for the warm weather to return! This February, we recommend…
1. a stroll through the Lumino installation. ..
February often feels like wandering through winter. Spring hasn’t yet sprung and we’re feeling (too) pale, deprived of the vitamin D of sunshine.
Here’s Luminothérapie, the light trail for the 15th edition of the LUMINO festival. This year, it offers an enchanting stroll through some thirty luminous works created by as many artists. Sculptures, projections and urban installations will take you on a beautiful tour of the district in light. It’s almost better than a trip to the tanning salon!
2Preview The Draft at Cinéma du Musée…
February 18 marks the premiere of Jephté Bastien’s Jutra-award-winning film from Montreal’s black community, and it’s an event not to be missed! It’s the story of two brothers realizing the first’s dream, navigating the world of field hockey to reach the top. Set against a backdrop of police violence and racial prejudice, Jack and Will will raise Will to the top of his sport.
The film, the director’s third, is an artistic punch that forces the audience to confront the systemic racism of our contemporary world, and blends stylized cinematography with elements of drama and action. It’s also a great way to educate yourself and support black artists and creators during Black History Month.
Find out more about the film here!
3Go back in time with the Missing Worlds experience. ..
February in 2025 is tough. February 3.5 billion years ago? We’re not saying it was easier, but at least there were dinosaurs!
From February 19, this immersive expedition takes you on a digital journey through evolution, meeting dinosaurs, the first mammals and then the first humans. The landscape reconstructions are breathtaking, and it’s the perfect opportunity to introduce children to history.
At the Montréal Science Centre. Reservations here.
4 Get your culinary tarot read…
I see…I see… an evening that can reveal your destiny and enchant your taste buds. Jokes aside, tarot is an art form that, at the Société des Arts Technologiques, will blend with the culinary arts to create a personalized experience built around awakening the senses and the unconscious.
Dinner includes an aperitif, a divinatory drawing paired with dishes designed according to the mood of the cards, and a dessert in line with the day’s cosmic weather. Do it if the start of the year has been more difficult than expected, if you have questions for the stars, and even to make up for missing your Valentine’s Day dinner!
We’ll let the cards do the talking, but to find out more, click here…
5.dive into the Rendez-Vous Québec Cinéma program to discover new films from here…
This is the only film festival dedicated entirely to Quebec cinema, and it’s celebrating its 43rd edition! There’s no better way to celebrate Quebec artists and writers, and consume locally!
This year’s Rendez-Vous Québec Cinéma features over 200 films, plus a host of free lectures and activities to accompany the screenings between February 19 and 27.
