The bodies coming together, the dry yet sensual movements to the notes of the piano, the tension between the dancers… All these elements make tango a wonderful dance, like a non-verbal language telling us the most beautiful love story. We Call It Tango Montréal brings back the South American sun and lets you discover an artistic expression inseparable from Argentine culture.
As the show takes place on limited dates, book your tickets in advance and don ‘t miss this Argentinian experience in the heart of Montreal.
What is “We Call It Tango”?
Because tango wouldn’t be tango without its typical instruments, two musicians will set the rhythm for the duo of dancers with their piano and bandoneon bandoneon(similar to an accordion). Add to this the play of light, and you’re plunged into the madness of Buenos Aires or the banks of the Río de la Plata. Through 3 acts and 13 different tangos, the love story behind this dance unfolds before your very eyes. Travel to the turbulent Buenos Aires of the ’50s without leaving Montreal.
Tango, its music and the show
In the heart of Buenos Aires, among the cobbled streets and flickering gas lamps of the 19th century, a new rhythm is born. It emerged from the vibrant mix of cultures that converged in the port city at the time: the haunting melodies of African slaves, the melancholy tunes of European immigrants and the fiery spirit of the gauchos(Argentine cowboys). This rhythm finds its expression in the embrace of two bodies, moving in harmony, a dance that becomes the Tango.
Let yourself be seduced by the fiery passion of one of the world’s best-known dances. Cheek by cheek, the dancers will captivate you with their grace, while the musicians will lull you to sleep with their rhythmic tunes. We Call It Tango invites you on a musical journey from Montreal to discover the rich culture of Argentina.
