What is We call it Ballet?
Much more than a dance, ballet is inseparable from the music that accompanies it, and each performance offers us a complex story strongly inspired by theater. In a 60-minute show, We call it Ballet offers the most authentic yet modern insight into the timeless art of ballet. Professional dancers will interpret the iconic Sleeping Beauty for you in a shorter version, and each of their movements will be amplified by LED-covered costumes offering a visual spectacle that compliments the dance.
The ballet, its history, and the show…
Ballet originated during the Italian Renaissance. It was performed at important court events such as weddings, but remained closely associated with the nobility. When Catherine de Médicis of Italy married King Henri II, she introduced this subtle art form to France. In French, it became known as ballet, derived from the Italian word ballare, which itself means to dance.
As we’ve said, ballet is much more than just a dance, and tells stories that are more complex than they appear. For this show, it’s Tchaikovsky’ s score of Sleeping Beauty that We call it Ballet has decided to revisit. And to further immerse you in this fabulous tale written by Charles Perrault, a narrator will intervene at certain moments to put the dances into context.
We call it Ballet hasn’t yet settled into the Rialto Theatre, but it won’t be long before it does. In the meantime, tickets are already on sale, so we advise you to tell your family and friends, or cancel all your plans so you can go alone, and reserve your tickets now.
