It’s Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend in Montreal, and in addition to the sports cars moving at a snail’s pace through Montreal’s streets (even more congested than usual), all the top drivers are here.
At the Four Seasons Hotel in Montreal, race cars are in the spotlight this week with a Ferrari in the lobby, evening events, and an exhibition in the grand Marcus restaurant.
RÉSONANCE – Antoine Dufilho’s aerodynamic cars
On Wednesday evening, the ultra-chic Marcus restaurant at the Four Seasons hosted its first RÉSONANCE evening at the end of the first hot day of the year. Over cocktails, three works by Lille-based artist Antoine Dufilho were exhibited by the Galerie de Bellefeuille.
Antoine Dufilho is passionate about cars—the noise, the smell of gasoline. It’s still light out, and during Grand Prix week, the sounds and the smell of burning rubber from sports cars are everywhere in Montreal. You sweat along with the car’s bodywork.
Antoine Dufilho’s cars are built without a body, like moving sculptures that shift and come alive as you walk around them. The artist loves fast cars and creates a kinetic effect using solid and void, achieved through layered and painted stainless steel plates mounted on hollow aluminum wheels.
Even indoors, we can feel a bit of the track’s breeze in our hair.
This is the first RÉSONANCE evening at the Four Seasons, but not the last—and the hotel will collaborate with other Montreal art galleries to host very, very chic openings four times a year.
Ferrari in the lobby
It took six hours of work—all night long—to get the Ferrari Formula 1 car into the lobby of the Four Seasons in Montreal. The entrance doors were taken down and then put back up, but seeing the car, which looks like a giant toy and is about 4 meters long, you really wonder how that was even possible.
Outside, in front of the hotel, a small group of people who know where the race car drivers are staying wait to see them come out, perhaps.
Inside the lobby, the air is cool and the car gleams in red and white. It’s a real F1 car, a test car—number 16, Charles Leclerc’s.
The car, along with a Ferrari video and an “in bocca al lupo” ( good luck) sign, will be on display all weekend.
