Like every 4 years, this fall we’ll be electing our municipal representatives in Montreal. After a hot autumn, it’s time to get serious again and take the time to study each other’s candidacies.
On November 2, 2025, we’ll be voting for the city mayor, borough mayors, municipal councillors and city councillors.
Participating in municipal elections – or any elections – is a privilege, but it does take a little bit of work. Fortunately, we’ve got a guide for that!
Guide to Municipal Elections 2025
1 Who can/will vote?
To vote in municipal elections, you need to meet these 6 conditions!
- Be domiciled on the territory of the city of Montréal and have lived in Québec for at least six months
- Be registered on the electoral list
- Be 18 years of age or older on November 2, 2025
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Not have lost your right to vote due to guardianship

2 Where do we vote?
We never really think of Montreal in terms of boroughs, but the city has 19 of them. Before an election year, these boroughs are divided into 58 districts.

3 Why do we vote?
We’re going to elect representatives to speak for Montrealers on the city’s Municipal Council – there are 65 to choose from.
They include the mayor of Montreal (and also of the Ville-Marie borough), the 18 mayors of the other boroughs and the 46 city councillors.
