From Friday, April 4 to Monday, April 6, 2026, it’s the first long weekend of spring, and we’re out of practice. One extra day feels like an eternity…
To make the most of our little getaway in Montreal, we started planning our long weekend a while back. It’s going to be pretty cold, unfortunately, and the “running barefoot through the fields” option seems out of the question —but we have other options.
To make the most of our pink- and green-dyed wicker baskets, our walks in rain boots, and our mimosas starting at 10 a.m., we’ve put together a list of what will be open and closed in Montreal over the long weekend.
What will be open during the Easter long weekend?
Public markets
Good news for lovers of fresh produce: all of Montreal’s public markets, including Atwater Market and Jean-Talon Market, will be open during the Easter long weekend.
The museums
Most museums will remain open according to their usual schedule during the Easter long weekend, and since it’s also the first Sunday of the month, many museums offer free admission for those 20 and under.
Transportation (operating according to holiday schedules)
Since Good Friday and Easter Monday are official holidays for the Société de transport de Montréal (STM),bus and metro service will operate on a holiday schedule. Check the specific schedules for your route before heading out.
What will be closed during the Easter long weekend?
SAQ and SQDC
SAQ and SQDC stores will be closed on Sunday, April 5, 2026. For wine and cannabis, stock up before the weekend—or by Saturday, April 4, at the latest.
Municipal Services
Hours for municipal services, such as community centers and libraries, vary by borough, so be sure to check the specific hours before heading out.
