Blueberries are one of the hallmarks of a Quebec summer—just like marshmallows while camping, jumps into the lake, and the French fry stands in the villages where you stop during a road trip. You could eat kilos of them. They’re packed with antioxidants, bursting with sunshine, and starting in late July, it’s officially blueberry season.
Just 45 minutes from downtown Montreal, you can go blueberry picking at Domaine du Flanc Sud.

In addition to picnic tables, fresh country air, and a giant corn maze to get lost in (and forget, for an afternoon, the sweltering maze of Montreal’s streets), the Domaine du Flanc Sud grows all the fruits we love in Quebec.
Throughout the year, depending on when the fruit is in season, you can pick apples, cherries, and blueberries there. The estate is also a vineyard, which is opening this year after the first vines were planted in 2022.
Starting in late July, it’s blueberry season. The Domaine has several varieties: Duke, Blueray, Spartan, Draper, Patriote, Chandler, and Bluecrop. You can taste them, compare them, make pies and jams with them, or just finish them off in the car on the way back to Montreal.
Head out with a basket, shoes and socks, a hat or cap, and some ideas for recipes you’ll try with your harvest.
