Just stepping inside the Basilica is like being transported years back in time. Once inside, curiosity gives way to wonder. The architecture of Notre-Dame Basilica, with its enchanting vaults, elaborate stained-glass windows and breathtaking details, reflects an era that lies at the very heart of Montreal and its history.
It’s much more than a religious site, it’s one of the city’s pillars. After our little tour of the Basilica – which could have lasted much longer – it was time for the AURA experience.
Suddenly, as if in a dream, the Notre-Dame Basilica comes to life. Lights illuminate the Basilica’s façade, while a breathtaking musical score accompanies the projections.
The quality of the video mapping is awe-inspiring. It’s as if the Basilica had decided to transform itself before our very eyes. And we can attest that the architecture takes on a whole new dimension: the vaulted ceilings that used to amaze us take on a whole new form, leaving us breathless. The architecture dances, renews itself, and breathes new life into this Montreal landmark.
Once the show was over – although we admit, we needed a few minutes to recover from our emotions – we headed for the Old Port (Vieux Port)! The Notre-Dame Basilica is close to plenty of waterfront restaurants offering spectacular views of the King Edward Basin.
