To cosplay General Store or a Hallmark Christmas movie where St. Nicholas has a six-pack, we recommend going to the same place this holiday season. Between the old wooden houses, the snow-covered picnic tables and some 2,000 km of Christmas lights, it’s a perfect getaway for the season…
It’s about a 2h-2h30 drive from downtown Montreal, and it’s during the Alight at Night festival in Upper Canada Village, Ontario.

Alight at Night, the good old days and a postcard Christmas
Upper Canada Village is a historic village and museum of Canadian colonial times.
For the past 25 years, for the holiday season, it has been transformed into a winter postcard to visit and experience an old-fashioned Christmas – until January 15, 2026, this is the 25th edition of the Alight at Night holiday festival.

During the festival, you can visit the village in the evening and dine in, or just eat a Beaver tail while strolling through the snow-covered streets. The Harvest Barn serves sandwiches, soups and salads. Willard’s Hotel serves homemade stews, macaroni and cheese, stuffed beef, fish fillets – and, of course, wine and beer.

You can also visit an old-fashioned toy factory and take a tour of the village on a toy train or horse-drawn carriage. There are creative workshops, a village store for Christmas shopping and plenty of opportunities to take the perfect photo of the children for our new year’s greetings card…
