When the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) was founded in 1921, buying wine in Montreal was an intimidating, almost formal affair. A century later, the scene has changed dramatically: the state-owned corporation is now partnering with A3 Québec to create major festive gatherings that have swept away snobbery to make way for conviviality and boldness.
From international-scale wine fairs along the river to evenings combining stand-up comedy and tastings, this fall’s lineup is the best proof of that. We’re taking you on a tour of the three wine events that are set to electrify the city in the coming months.
The Great Montreal Wine Tasting
The largest gathering of its kind in Eastern Canada, this legendary event transforms the Port of Montreal into a global hub of flavors. For three days, you’ll be able to travel from vineyard to vineyard and interact directly with hundreds of passionate winemakers and producers from all corners of the globe.

An Idiot’s Guide to Wine
It’s the most unique event of the season: presented at the prestigious 9e at the Eaton Centre for just two performances this year, this stand-up show from Australia was created by a comedian with a degree in oenology. The ticket includes five tastings of wines from around the world for an evening that’s as enriching as it is hilarious.
